The Arctic ice groaned beneath the hull of the USS Talon. Lieutenant Commander Sarah Vance had been tracking a mysterious signal for days-a rhythmic pulse that didn't match any known vessel. The sonar revealed a shape beneath the ice: a massive, angular structure, half-buried in the seabed.

"It's a ship," her ensign whispered. "But it's not one of ours."

Sarah ordered a dive team. The ice was thick, but they found a hatch, still sealed, still intact. Inside, the air was cold but breathable. The walls were covered in symbols-not German, not Russian, not anything from this era.

A figure emerged from the shadows. He wore a silver suit, his face pale, his eyes tired.

"I am Captain Friedrich Adler of the Temporal Corps," he said. "This ship crashed here in 1944. The ice preserved us. The rift kept us alive."

"How many of you are there?" Sarah asked.

"Forty. All frozen, all waiting." He paused. "You must free us. Destroy the rift with your torpedoes."

Sarah hesitated. The crew was watching, their faces tense.

"Do it," Friedrich said. "We have waited long enough."

Sarah gave the order. The torpedoes struck the rift. The ice cracked. The ship shuddered.

Friedrich smiled, then faded-not died, but faded, returning to his proper time.

The ice closed behind them.

Sarah never told anyone what she had seen. But every year, on the anniversary, she sailed to the coordinates and dropped a wreath into the water.

"Rest well," she whispered.

And somewhere, in the deep, the frozen crew drifted on-no longer trapped, no longer waiting, finally at peace.
